Dis-Qnity: DuPont Spinoff Qnity Charges Forward Towards November 1 Spinoff

Qnity: Electric Charge Unity Spinoff

In a brief interlude of posting this past January, we wrote about the Qnity spinoff from DuPont (DD). Of course, at the time, the electronics spinoff had not been named, so this is our first opportunity to discuss the name, Qnity. What does it mean? The company says:

What’s the meaning behind our name?
Qnity, combining Q, the symbol for electric charge, and unity, embodies the energy we bring to the most complex challenges, and the high standard of quality behind everything we do.

Oh, Q is for electric charge and the company has unity. Cool. Not the worst name we have seen, but, really, who cares? Worth spending whatever they spent on naming consultants? Hardly.

Qnity Hosts Investor Day As November 1 Spinoff From DuPont Nears

In any event, we are getting close to the completion of the spinoff. We mentioned earlier this week that Qnity had borrowed $4.1 billion to fund a large dividend to DuPont on its way out the door. Yesterday, September 18, 2025, Qnity Electronics hosted an investor day to introduce the company and outline its plans.

Qnity presents long-term growth targets as a premier technology solutions leader across the semiconductor value chain

  • Two-thirds of the portfolio tied directly to semiconductors, including chip fabrication, advanced packaging and thermal management, with total addressable market exceeding $30 billion
  • Deeply established, decades-long relationships with the world’s most innovative technology companies, representing ~80% of the total semiconductor market
  • Leading the transition to advanced nodes for high performance computing and advanced connectivity with ~90% unit driven consumables product portfolio
  • Expect to deliver financial outperformance in a rapidly growing semiconductor market
  • Strong balance sheet and robust free cash flow generation supports balanced capital allocation strategy

With $4.6 billion in annual sales at ~30% margins and a total addressable market that is $30 billion and rapidly growing, the company believes that it can achieve significant growth as an independent company. Also, the multiple the market awards to a semiconductor component producer should be meaningfully higher than the multiple of a staid chemicals company.

Qnity Spinoff Transaction Details

DuPont’s spinoff of Qnity will be tax-free to shareholders. The distribution ratio has not yet been determined, nor has the date of record. However the company has said the effective date will be November 1, 2025. Qnity has also said that the company will trade under the Q ticker. The Q ticker was previously used by Qwest Communications, which acquired baby bell US West, one of the spinoffs from the breakup of AT&T.
